The Yoga Boat or Half Boat Pose

by Kathy Hancock
(Benton, Ky. U.S.A.)

The Boat

The Boat

Be seated on the floor or a yoga mat, hold your legs straight and together while keeping your shoulders, back and elbows straight. Bring the legs up together into a 45 degree angle with your torso, and bring your unbent arms forward straight ahead of your shoulders, hold this position for like five minutes or maybe ten while balancing on the sitting bones.

If you are a beginner you may bend your knees at a right angle while balancing on your hip bones. If you want a harder workout for advanced yoga, lower your legs slowly to the floor while keeping them joined together with your knees straight and then raise them back into the V..repeating 30 times, for one to two minutes each time if you like.

This yoga pose strengthens your stomach and core. I find it relieves all sorts of pain in your back especially, also in your wrists and calves.

This stretching feels so good, it can wake you up if you get tired at any time during your day or help you get to sleep at night. Most any stretching exercise is very rejuvenating, this one is a favorite, you won't even know you are working out.
