Recovery C Section

Recover C Section...

Having recovered recently from a C Section I must say, that it was more painful than I had expected.
Before my baby was delivered, I was quite active and rode my bicycle a lot, lifted some weights and did lots of walking, also. I considered myself pretty strong and fit.

After having surgery (my first) I was very apprehensive about the fact that my body had been cut open. I think fear is a very strong factor in recovery.

The first few days at home I was even nervous that if I was reclining, my chubby cat might leap up onto me. I had trouble relaxing.

Nursing the baby supposedly speeds up the contracting of your uterus and helps in every way. I began breast-feeding my son and after a few trials, was successful at feeding him.

The very first thing I did each and every day, was to continue my walking program. That seemed to be the safest and simplest way for me to start exercising.

I was cautious and mindful that I had just experienced a major surgery and was reminded by relatives that there was no "rush" to get back to exercising.

After a couple of weeks of walking, I started to feel better in every way. I did not push myself, though.

By the time the baby was six weeks old, I really felt quite good. I began a brisk walk each day, for 2 miles, which took me about 25 minutes. Soon I regained my strength.

Once I gained confidence that I would not harm my body or my incision, I began lying on my back and doing leg lifts. I started with five, then went to 10. Now, it's been 10 weeks since my baby's birth and I have added 10 sit ups also with the leg lifts.

I truly believe that you can get back to your regular exercise routine; but it is best to know your limits, so that your body is ready and healing properly.
