My Secret

My first c-section was scary - umbilical cord around my baby's neck

I had my first c-section 35 years ago because my daughter's umbilical cord was wound around her neck. I was a little scared because I didn't know anything about c-sections but after it was over I discovered that it wasn't as bad as I expected.

While I was recovering a very good nurse told me that the best way to recover was to use a pillow to press on my incision and do light sit-ups every few hours. When I was able to get up and walk around she told me to also use the pillow and stand as erect as I could because that would help strengthening my weak muscles.

Once I got home it took about a week or two before I was really ready to fully exercise, slowly at first then building up to a full workout. I started walking and doing sit-ups as often as possible. When my stitches healed I started doing a lot more walking which really was the best exercise and then started to do crunches and sit-ups.

I started using vitamin E to help heal my scar. After showering, I would apply the vitamin E directly onto my scar and covering it up for a while with light gauze to help keep it clean. This help a great deal with the healing process. I have since had two more c-sections and each one was easier than the last following the same process.
