The principle of burning fat on your abs is to sweat it out. You can do any activity as long as it will make you sweat, then your abdominal fat will also begin to melt away.
Doing sit-ups and playing basketball give you a different result in terms of reduction of abdominal fat. Sit-ups will only develop and strengthen your abdominal muscle, while playing basketball is cardio exercise and will burn fat.
