Recently I've begun a fitness and diet program; I walk between 2-3 miles six days a week and participate in an hour long water aerobics class three days a week. I altered my diet to reflect less carbs, more protein, veggies and fruit. So far I've lost 45 pounds (since September 18th) and can see a noticeable difference in my bottom, legs, breasts etc. However, when I look down, I still see a big flap of loose skin and fat that tucks up and under into my C-section/hysterectomy suture line. So, I'm wondering whether ab exercises and diet will ever change this? Some people have told me that my only option is a tummy tuck. In your professional opinion, do you think this is true? I'd really love some advice regarding how to proceed. I'm enjoying my new energy, slimmer appearance, and exercise routines. But I'm disheartened by this poochy tummy that won't go away. Thanks! Dana ----------------------------- ----------------------------- Dana, Thanks for your question. First I want to congratulate you on working hard to get in shape and lose weight! Way to go! It is true that sometimes when you have a history like yours of abdominal surgeries and then significant weight loss, your skin will still be loose in your stomach. Have you been working on exercising your abdominals during this time that you have been losing weight as well as doing your walking and water aerobics? Over time, you can see some changes when working on firming your abdominal muscles, but with your history of surgeries you will probably not achieve the "six pack" look or flat stomach that you want with exercise alone. You will have to decide what to do from here. Have you tried abdominal exercises with an exercise ball? I highly recommend consistently trying exercises like these 3-4 times a week along with a weight loss exercise program like walking and aerobics.
